Airbnb is planning to launch a new premium service for mega-homes, mansions and penthouses, Bloomberg has revealed.
The service, unofficially named “Airbnb Lux”, will be tested in some markets at the end of the year, according to sources familiar with the matter. If successful, it is likely that the company will roll out the service more broadly.
The company has yet to confirm this news. “We’re continually experimenting with new ways to create meaningful experiences on Airbnb,” a company spokesperson told Gizmodo. “I don’t have any more to share on the new things we’re test driving but we have a few exciting projects in the works.”
The tests follow Airbnb’s acquisition of Canadian company Luxury Retreats, a high-end rental service website which previously listed over 4,000 villas and holiday houses. Airbnb has also positioned itself at the luxury market through deals with celebrities. Last year, Beyonce posted a photo of her $US10,000-a-night Airbnb on Instagram, and Lady Gaga endorsed the company in February.
