Dior’s New ‘Love Chain’ Campaign Receives Backlash for Featuring Johnny Depp

Dior has launched a new charity initiative titled #DiorLoveChain, featuring Natalie Portman, Jennifer Lawrence, Robert Pattinson, Johnny Depp and more.

The campaign features a short clip featuring celebrities answering the question: “And you, what would you do for love?”

For each Instagram post using the hashtag, Dior will donate $1 to We Movement, a global development charity to provide education to young girls in Kenya.

The campaign has received backlash for featuring actor Johnny Depp, who is still facing domestic violence charges.

Marisa Bate, writer at The Pool said Depp’s appearance undermines the brand’s stance on feminism.

“We all know that men whose former girlfriends allege they committed violence against them are definitely the same men we should be asking about the profound human emotion of respect and intimacy,” said Bate.

The brand has also been slammed for its ubiquitous ‘Sauvage’ advertising campaign in Australia, which was fronted by Depp as the face of the fragrance.
